We loved a morning on "the Spit" - kids in the surf, walks among the driftwood. We were fortunate to be able to see the Lavender Farms without the crowds. This is a lovely "home away from home" - we needed nothing but the essential foods. Beds were comfortable! Showers just right. Now I am looking for an excuse to return!! -Shelton, WA, New Zealand, Singapore, Juneau, Alaska

November 2012
Happy Turkey Day! We had warm weather today and visited the Dungeness Spit (Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge). We really enjoyed talking with the volunteer rangers they were very knowledgable. The Dungeness Spit is actually made by ocean wave action that erodes the SW shoreline and carries and deposits the erroded sand to form the Dungeness Spit. They say the Spit, which is over 4 miles long, grows about 6 inches per year. What an amazing balance of nature!

This is a very special spot. Love listening to the seagulls and waves. We felt at home here. The house is well equipped. Most of all we liked being so close to fantastic hiking at Olympic National Park. We hiked in snow shoes at Mount Rainier and should have known better that Hurricane Ridge would require snow shoes but we did it anyway just using out boots even though we sometimes were in snow up to our knees. Same thing yesterday at the top of the Lake Angeles hike. What a gorgeous place even when in snow up to our knees. Most of Lake Angeles was not covered with snow and we took great photographs of the wild flower along the trail especially the white trillium. Walking on the Olympic Peninsula watching and listening to the waves while listening to Puccini's Operas on the iPod was a great experience. We look forward to returning to this relaxing house. -Cape Coral, FL

We really made use of everything and found it fun to be at home in a different home. Thank you to all of those involved on the business end and on the guest end who provide, use, replace, and respect a complete home so that others such as ourselves have a choice like this to take advantage of. God's Blessings! -Fond du Lac, WI

June 2008
This place is a fantastic find. Yesterday was warm, clear and calm. After checking at Hurricane Ridge and then watching bald eagles in the wildlife refuge, we had steamed clams and mussels and wood planked salmon BBQd on the deck. Holidays don't get better than this. We'd recommend this place to everyone. It is very thoughtfully appointed, right down to the well stocked kitchen and deer wandering through the property. Thanks. -Sydney, Australia

June 2008
What a glorious view! Shiny sky scrapers across the Strait by day and beautiful lights of Victoria, BC by night. Cruise ships, cargo ships and large ferries passing by - lit and lovely at night too. Toss in a resident raccoon or two, and eagle being chased by two crows in hot pursuit as we stood on the deck.... Add a quaint village and rambling deer along with good mattresses and you have our 4 days at 10,000 Waves! We are a large family of 8 girls and 2 boys from Toppenish, WA. This year marks our 24th year of going away each spring together along with one sister-in-law and one adapted sister (like we needed another girl!). God's blessings on this Cabin on the Strait.

June 2008

What a perfect place to meet my new granddaughter, see my aunti and mother, beautiful daughter, to spend quality time with my sister and niece. All of this and the beautiful scenery who could ask for more? God granted me this special time with my family together with the sound of waves crashing, birds singing, and rain hitting the windows. Is this not the best sounds in the world? The trees, the open sea and my wonderful family. I could not have been blessed more in my life! This time has been the best ever! Happy New Year at 10,000 Waves!

We had a great time with family and friends to celebrate the new year and my birthday. From Minnesota, Tacoma, Portland, and Port Angeles we all came here!

The view was lovely, the house was warm, and the beds were dreamy!

We hope all who come this year have laughter, love, and good times. We tried to start the year with an abundance of each!

November 2007
We are two families friends for 25 years - each of us with a developmentally disabled young person. Your house was wonderfully convenient and cozy. We enjoyed every minute. The views are wonderful, the beds comfy and the whole environment gave us a safe haven whenever we returned from being astounded by the breathtaking scenery. Thank you for a memorable 70th birthday celebration. -Littleton, CO.

We had many bizarre dreams here. It was a comfy abode. But where is the recycle? Julie was extra comfy.

October 2007
Man-sized cabin. We are a group of lumberjacks. We wanted to take our vacation away and work on teaching younger lumberjacks about their heritage.

July 2007
Great spot - loved the opportunity to use the cabin / deck space and easy trail down to the wonderful shore. Also a great location for outings - we went to Olympic National Forest (Hurrican Ridge - beautiful views of mountains, trees, water) and spent some time in Sequim, Port Angeles, and stops along the way.

The kids loved it. The cabin is very family friendly (toys, games, videos, trail) and the nearby outings were fun (driving tour wildlife park, shoreline, sand sculptures displayed in Port Angeles). Also enjoyed frequent deer sightings and a raccoon visit.

June 2007
We enjoyed our stay at our "Cabin in the woods." Beautiful views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Dungeness Spit and Dungeness Harbor. During our stay we visited Victoria BC, Hurricane Ridge on a foggy day, Seattle, Forks & Pacific Coast in the Olympic National Park. We will be taking home many wonderful memories. Many thanks to our son and daughter who were with us. They gave us this trip for our 50th anniversary.

June 2007
Loved your home. Very comfortable and the location was perfect. Especially enjoyed the young family of quail living along the driveway.

May 2007
Great little cabin. Nice birds, great for our kids, great stove, nice trees. Seattle, WA.

April 2007
Thank you for opening your home. We truely had a wonderful stay.

April 2007
What a perfect spot! We really enjoyed our too short stay and a chance to play with our friend before she starts her latest adventure as a naturalist for Cruise West out of Seattle. The private salt marsh / mud flat / beach was a great birding spot - bald eagles, yellow legs, barrow's golden eye, buffalo heads, belted kingfisher, caspian turn, common loon. An orange-crowned warbler was trilling around the cabin all day. only one day to explore beyond the sanctuary of 10,000 Waves was not enough so we hope to return.

April 2007
We walked out to the lighthouse yesterday. At a brisk pace it took us 1.5 hours out and about 1.75 hours back. We do have some sore muscles today, but we are so glad we made the trip. We highly recommend it. The sound of the waves crashing is mesmerizing and makes the time go by more quickly. We have enjoyed our stay.

February 2007
What a great weekend! It rained a little Saturday morning then sunny the rest of the day. We walked out to the lighthouse and had a tour up to the top of the light - magnificent view! We had to soak our feet when we got back. We grilled some dead cow and had a splendid dinner for the two of us. We saw several eagles and blue herons. We hate to leave this place. Thanks for letting us stay at your wonderful cabin.

January 2007
Happy New Year!! You have to visit Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. Drive to Port Angeles and follow the brown national park signs. They have downhill skiing and rent show shoes for a beautiful days trek. Take along sunflower seeds to feed the birds that will sit on your hand if you remain still. We are coming back this summer to do the same ridgeline hike.

October 2006
The high speed wireless was a pleasant surprise. I was able to sit at the picnic table and catch up on my surfing and email while enjoying the deck and wonderful waves and birds and passing ships. The Dungeness Spit park was full of visitors and we could occasionally hear the kids playing down there until the tide came in and the waves got too loud. The week went by too fast and we wish we could stay longer. Thank you.

September 2006
We had a great time. Wonderful to see all the toys, especially for 2 sets of 3-year-old twins. Thank you for making your cabin available to us.

August 2006
It would be impossible to dream this beauty. 8:30 pm August 29, 2006. The light is dying and the night takes us into the ocean like an enormous mother boat. The kids are ready to go to bed after their bath. They smell like soap and future.

Our feet are tired. We do the dishes. We laugh. We have eaten too much today and we still have brownies and vanilla ice cream.

The light is dying. It would be impossible to dream this beauty, in this moment. Now. We want to believe that the world breathes at peace. The world breathes at peace over Ten Thousand Waves. Santa Monica, CA.

August 2006
The house was great! We enjoyed watching the deer! The wildlife park was also a good time. We also enjoyed walking along the Dungeness Spit. We wanted to tell you to check out Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park it had an awesome view. If you stand with bread in your hand the birds will sit on your hand and eat. Spokane, WA.

August 2006
Loved the spit, had a great time canoeing! Views were great. We loved 10,000 Waves! Lots of deer! We suggest Hurricane Ridge. We also went to the Hoh Rain Forest. Hope your stay is as good as ours!!!

July 2006
Four adults - two kids had a great time at the 10,000 Waves Cabin in the woods, above the ocean, bathed in the sun, cooled by the sea breezes. Squirrels chased around the trees, deer grazed the meadows, and an eagle glided along the shoreline. Thanks for a home away from home to explore the Olympic Park and pick/eat strawberries and raspberries until we could eat no more. Thanks for toys, books, full kitchen, etc., etc., etc.

July 2006
We experienced all kinds of weather. There are two sets of twin fawns in the neighborhood. One set played chase in the woods to wish us goodbye tonight. We recommend skipping the satellite TV and going for the sunset entertainment center. We live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and found this a welcome quiet retreat. A former teaching friend from Tifton, Georgia was here for part of our visit. She loved the area as well.

July 2006
Perfect weather there wasn't a cloud in the sky all week. We rented kayaks and paddled out to the Dungeness Lighthouse. We dug clams during low tides, stacked rocks, and build forts from driftwood on the Spit. 10,000 Waves is wonderful. This is going to be our secret summer vacation spot. We will be back again. Oh yeah, thanks for the mud boots - they are needed down on the tidelands.

July 2006
We had a great stay here. We, too, wish we could wake up here everyday. Loved the beach and Spit. Hope to come back here again soon. Peoria, AZ

June 2006
This was a great experience. The ocean is so beautiful and the trees so tall. I love it here, it brought some great family memories. The Spit beach is really cool to make rock sculptures by stacking rocks on top of each other. Andy you can build huts out of random pieces of drift wood. I wish I could wake up to this every day. -Seattle and Salt Lake City

June 2006
We ladies are celebrating the retirement of our friend. What a wonderful place this is. Three of us brought our air mattresses and sleeping bags and slept on the deck - stars, waves, shooting stars. What a fun time. I'm so glad I found this vacation home online. I've always loved Sequim. We enjoyed our walks and enjoyed the neighborhood deer families! The house is very comfortable for us gals! The master bed is heaven to sleep on. Everything has been so cozy. I thank you so much.

June 2006
This place was wonderful- a great place to get away from the hectic busy life of Seattle. The house was cute and clean - great view of sunset and the spit. Too bad we only stayed for such a short time. The weather only permitted us to hike hurricane ridge, crab digging, Marymere Falls, and hanging out with the family in this cozy house. Saw deer and other cute little creatures. The house is nicely furnished. Thanks for a great stay, hope everyone else to come and enjoy. -Jenison, MI

May 2006
What a Memorial Day treat - bald eagles perched in the Douglas Fir trees out front! God Bless America. The first thing we noticed when we stepped out of our car was the fresh sea air and the thunderous crashing waves. This seaside place is magical! We hope to come back again next fall, after school starts. -Boise, ID

May 2006
This was a great place to spend Mother's Day with our families - we met our good friends from Spokane and had a marvelous time. We did some shopping and visited Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park - a must do. We cooked all our meals here and everything tasted better than usual. Thanks for the well stocked kitchen it had everything we needed! I feel rejuvenated - thanks for letting us use your wonderful, cozy cabin! We plan on this being our first annual family get together at 10,000 Waves. -Marysville and Spokane, WA

April 2006
Hi! We are from Door County, WI, and this is our second stay at 10,000 Waves. My grandchildren love playing on the beach and making forts with driftwood. The town of Sequim has really changed since we first came here. All the new stores. They could really use some good antique malls though! Well guess that’s about all for now. Hope you all enjoy the cabin like we do. -Sturgeon Bay, WI

March 2006
This place rules! I hope I can come back again. -Portland,OR

January 2006
Happy New Year from Sequim!! We spent the first day of this year walking and playing on the Dungeness Spit. Lots of visitors there today. We are definitely coming back to 10,000 Waves again. We love Sequim and may have to eventually retire here. -Bozeman, MT

December 2005
Seasons Greetings, and all that. We relaxed and did next to nothing other than walk the Spit and enjoy warm fires in the woodstove at night. Ate lots of Christmas prime rib perfectly seasoned and grilled on the Weber Genesis. One night we saw the famous Mrs. Raccoon and her sons Timmy and Jimmy (I know their names since their pictures are in the 10,000 Waves User's Manual). We returned home from dinner at Khu Larb Thai restaurant and they stared at us for quite awhile before they ran into the woods. We also enjoyed lots of bald eagles perched on the trees out front, especially in the mornings - seems like we took thousands of pictures of the eagles. We saw lots of seals and/or sea lions on the outer side of the Spit during our daily hikes. Several people we met on the Spit said there is also a huge elephant seal living on the Spit beach out near the Dungeness Lighthouse, but we did not make the hike out that far (5 miles one-way!). It hurts to leave here and have to return home. Thanks for sharing this cozy house and unique location with us.

November 2005
Four days of beautiful weather over the Thanksgiving holiday. We met our friends from Vasteras, Sweden here and enjoyed their company and cheer. Everyone enjoyed the beach walk on Dungeness Spit, the soaring bald eagle shows, and the great wave sounds from the deck. We especially appreciated the kitchen that had everything we needed to prepare the turkey and all the peripherals. Best tasting turkey ever, outstanding! I must say food just tastes better here. This is one of those unique, neat places that you get lucky and find every so often. We have already made reservations to return this spring. -Vasteras, Sweden, and Kennewick, WA

October 2005
We wanted to get out and unwind before the busy holiday season sets in. And this was the perfect place to get away from it all. The kitchen was so well equipped beyond our expectations. My husband enjoyed watching the ships. Weather was so nice we dined out on the deck picnic table! We will return here again. -Lake Oswego, OR

September 2005
Hi, my folks wanted to go to 3 Crabs restaurant for their 49th anniversary and invited us along. It was raining in Black Diamond and pouring down in Tacoma, but as we crossed the Narrows Bridge, the skies began to clear. Onward and upward across Hood Canal Bridge with a side stop at Lower Oak Bay campground (our favorite haunt) to cool our axels. Past Gardiner with a look at Troll Haven and into Sequim. An early dinner at the 3 Crabs restaurant with bits of crab shell flying. After dinner, we drove around a bit, thinking to find an overnight stay (we never plan anything) and found a B&B that advertised cabins. One credit card swipe later we found ourselves driving down Anderson and "Here we are!!" This has been one of our most relaxing weekends in a very long time. My folks who are less mobile read, napped, and gazed while my wife and I explored the Spit. A curious sea lion watched us and we watched a pair of Orcas. And the semi-tame deer across the road.

But as is always the case, it is now time to pack up, clean up and head home. We will remember this weekend for a very long time and will even try to return some day. And in all things, give thanks. -Black Diamond, WA

August 2005
A wonderful week of sun and fog, ocean and deer and 10,000 Waves as a lovely base of operations as we explored the Olympic peninsula. The slower pace of life, the friendly folks in town, the good company of fellow hiker and others out to enjoy the local beauty. We enjoyed a splendid day in Victoria too, topped off by a really lovely meal at Bella Italia in Port Angeles. Lots of good scrabble in the evenings after a beautiful sunset every night. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home! -Silver Spring, MD

August 2005
Thirty two years ago when the back door (a Dutch door) was the front door and this cabin ended at the living room wall, I first stayed here for a few nights. It was owned then by the original builders, patrons of the arts in Seattle. The slate wall behind the wood stove and the little hall way to the 2 bedrooms were inhabited by Eskimo carvings and one fabulous mask of the sort we only see now in museums. There was no deck, the trees were short enough that the Spit was fully visible, and I lay on the grass and listened to the sound of the seagull’s wings beating as they occasionally flew by on important business.

It was not a happy summer for me, rather I sought refuge from turmoil here, and found it. My father brought me out, knowing the restorative qualities of the place. He took me out to dinner at the 3 Crabs and ate raw oysters, a nasty habit he had whenever given the opportunity. I know he left me here alone at my request afterward, and that I slept in the living room so I could wake to the sight and sound of the water breaking on the Spit.

I can’t remember how I got back to Seattle, but only remember the feelings of being exquisitely cared for by him and by this place.

I returned at least twice with the man who is now my husband, and then the owner became ill and died and we had no more access to this magical place after 1980. A month or two ago my husband was searching online for a place for a short restorative for us and called me to come look at the photo of 10,000 Waves. We booked it on the spot, not knowing whether it really was our former haven. Now, four hours after walking in, we know it is and the old magic is settling in.

As people will do, I wander around in the small spaces, looking for remnants of those earlier visits, confirmation of memory, but all that is left, other than the Dutch door, the slate wall and cast iron stove, and the peace, is a well worn copy of the The Family of Man and several volumes of Art in America dating back into the 60s. It’s enough, though; I water the flowers and make another cup of tea. It’s good to be back.

Saw two hunting march hawks - white rump patch is conspicuous. Was mobbed by mosquitoes down on the tide flats at the end of the path. Found a tiny green toad with black spots on white stripes. It was visiting in the ivy planter by the picnic table. -Los Angeles, CA

July 2005
This was a beautiful house, thanks for letting us rent it! We had a great week and many fun day trips to Victoria, Lake Cresent, and Rialto Beach. Hope to come back again. -Arlington, TX

July 2005
Our family was so fortunate to have the "Sunny Sequim" weather. That, along with the beautiful vistas at every corner gave us a opportunity to relax and become closer with each other. We hiked the Hoh Rainforest, Hurricane Ridge, and Point Flattery - all beautiful. Our family also enjoyed shopping in Port Townsend - a cute port downtown. The country club is good to have a cocktail, but go to Dupuis for dinner. Ma Ma's in Port Angeles is good for brunch or a quick sandwich. We're off to Victoria!!! Thank you for letting our family relax in this wonderful town! -Boxley Valley and Conway, AR.

July 2005
Gorgeous weather, an enchanting carriage ride in Victoria, a breathtaking hike up Hurricane trail, getting lost in the National Wild Life Refuge made our family reunion a memorable week.

We recommend the Mexican restaurant El Cazador and sea kayaking for adults and lake kayaking for the children and older adults.

20 million deer were spotted and fifty eagle sightings. Beautiful sunsets were added to this spectacular scenic experience. -Boston, Chicago, and Everett.

July 2005
Provided a great, relaxing spot for our annual girls "camping" trip. We enjoyed the lavender festival - though we all concur, when you've see one lavender farm, you've seen them all. The weather Friday was cool, Saturday too - though the sun came out Saturday afternoon and stayed til Sunday.

July 2005
Enjoyed the sound of the ocean waves and the beautiful views. The Olympic Peninsula is a special place.

Great place! Loved all the lavender and Dungeness Spit. The mud was full of tiny crabs, It was amazing. Our parents even let us drive around. Ha, ha - just kidding. Well anyways, we're about to bounce out the door. Great place to chill and love the name. Thanks. -Durango, CO and Seattle, WA

July 2005
We saw an elephant seal at the end of Dungeness Spit!!! We enjoyed kayaking out to the New Dungeness Lighthouse with Don Rice of Dungeness Kayaking - really recommend him as a guide. We saw lots of sea lions, harbor seals, birds, and especially bald eagles all over the Dungeness Spit. The tour and climb to the top of the lighthouse was very fun and exciting. Cozy house with great views. Great fireworks at Port Angeles on July 4th. Thanks for leaving us use this great place!

June 2005
Thank you for a beautiful time in a beautiful place! A nice change from out little trailer down on Jim Lotsgozelle Road - next to the Game Farm. Thanks again!

June 2005
We found 3 clam shells and lots of dead crabs. I also saw a big deer, I took pictures. Oh, yeah! When we went to find clams and crabs, we couldn't get across the lake.

My idea was to make a boat out of wood. There was lots of wood. But we didn't do it. Then I played Yahtzee for the first time. Guess what, I won! Now we will go to bed. The next morning I woke up before my big brother, I always do. I brushed my teeth, got in my clothes, and had breakfast. We're going on a ferry boat then look around and come back.

May 2005
Enjoyed the warm comfort of the house, the company of the deer family, the reassuring sounds of the waves and the fleeting view of the bald eagle. Thank you! -Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Phoenix, AZ; all originally from Sri Lanka

April 2005

We really enjoyed the wildlife and especially the bald eagles and squirrels and quail. This is a great place, and we want to come back here again. -Richland, WA

March 2005
10,000 Waves

The sound it lures-

To catch nature’s surrounds,

And make it yours.

A winding path leads the way - for anticipation of your stay,

Tall, evangelinelike trees assure you that what is ahead - will put you at ease.

Eagles fly by and roost up high -

While sunsets paint the expanse of sky.

The deer, they silently creep, but, not off the cliff so steep!

A path, it leads a strenuous way -

To bring you down to the beautiful bay.

A spit that is world renown, the longest natural sand spit around -

A lighthouse lighting the way - so ships in the strait of Juan de Fuca will not go astray.

Gravel beach and tide flats - give marine wildlife a natural habitat.

To them - a place to rest, protection from wind and pounding surf, but to those who stay here - a harbor from problems pounding us on earth.

Do we not also need this critical feeding, resting and nesting time?

A refuge habitat in which to unwind?

Yes, the nurture of nature soothes us within -

And all this takes place in a cabin in Sequim -

Thank you for sharing your sanctuary with us. It was peaceful and restoring! Every attention to detail in the furnishings, kitchen equipment and throughout the cabin added to our comfort and relaxation for our stay! -St. Petersburg, FL

March 2005
The beauty of the northwest is enhanced by this haven among the trees with an ocean view. This homey place with a view of ocean expanse allowed me the time to forget the troubles of an urban life. I met friendly residents of the area and watched deer graze in open pastures. Travels to Vancouver with elegant food and a trip to the maritime museum helps appreciate a life that many endured to settle this beautiful land. The Port Angeles "Corps Shop" brought back memories of my youth and part of my life’s foundation. This short time at 10,000 Waves will be a great chapter in life I will not forget. -Fresno, CA

January 2005
We are nine ladies on a retreat. So relaxing here and we were visited by two deer and a bald eagle too! Sunny on Friday and Saturday and a refreshing rain on Sunday. Large ships, calm seas, peaceful wildlife, warm building, good food, and friendship throughout our weekend. Thanks for allowing us this opportunity. -Tacoma, WA

January 2005

December 2004
Our family will forever have great Christmas memories of 10,000 Waves. We enjoyed the local shopping and pleasantness of the Sequim-ites. Views of the Dungeness Spit are tremendous. We saw lots of visitors down on the spit on Christmas day. It was fun enjoying the deck and passing ships while drinking hot buttered rums. A great time was had by all. This place is the best. Thank you for letting us enjoy it!

December 2004
Thanks for the lovely visit!

November 2004

Awesome! Beautiful! Thank you so much!

September 2004
There was a big group of us here from several locations - Salt Lake City, UT, Kaysville, UT, Colorado Springs, CO, and Phoenix, AZ. Our niece / granddaughter was getting married. We couldn’t have had a better location to retreat to. Its beautiful, peaceful, cozy, and I would love to bring the rest of my family back again soon!

September 2004
I will miss the sound of crashing waves and the beautiful views of water, sand, pines, and setting sun. No matter what the weather, this area is great for hiking – in the mountains, the rain forest, or the beach. -West Chester, OH

September 2004
What a beautiful, peaceful, restful spot this is. Easy access to the beach, sound of wind, waves, birds and various critters, and numerous drives, hikes, spas, shops and activities at hand. We all found sleep sound and restful spaces. The kitchen was very well equipped and our best eating happened here. The equipment - toys, high chair, and crib, allowed our Dutch friends to take car of their one year old with ease. Thank you. -Seattle, Colorado, Holland

August 2004
Our group of eight kayakers arrived and were delighted with 10,000 Waves. It was a perfect place for us to gather. We kayaked out to the lighthouse and encountered a group of harbor seals who looked as if they were conspiring to attack. They circled us and watched as if they were trying to figure out how they could take us down. While on the kayak trip the rain began pelting us. The seas go so rough that we abandoned one kayak and doubled up in another. We arrived safe and drenched but better for the experience. On Saturday my brother prepared an incredibly fantabulous seafood boil which the entire group loved! We walked the beach and found a couple of mementos. Enjoyed the trip and stay. -Tacoma, WA.

August 2004
We came from Atlanta, GA, Tucson, AZ, and Dobbs Ferry, NY to spend two weeks in this beautiful spot. We loved the deer in the yard, the cool weather, the berry picking at Grays Marsh Farm (we went four times!) and we especially loved the view of the ocean and the large ships. Thank you for having binoculars on the shelf four our use. We will think of 10,000 Waves often!

July 2004
My husband and I stayed here with friends (opposite page) and had a very relaxing time. I think our favorite moments were spent outside on the deck at sunset listening to the Waves. Omaha, NE.

July 2004
In 18 years my husband has been trying to get me to the Pacific Northwest. The east coast girl in me has resisted but he finally wore me down. Now that I've seen it, especially the view from 10,000 Waves and Hurricane Ridge I cannot believe I was so stubborn. This is truly "God's Country"! I'm ready to move here permanently. We loved our visit, as did our friends who traveled with us! We'll all be back with the kids next year!! USN retired. -Omaha, NE

July 2004
Just arrived from Boston! This place is so fun!! When we arrived we went for a walk down by the beach. At first there was a lot of mud. My sister and I got our shoes really muddy.

Tonight is our last night here. Our stay was so much fun! We went horse back riding at Sequim Stables. We walked along the beach and also went to Crescent Beach; which was awesome. The house was also awesome. It had a great view and walk-able beach access. We loved the view and eating and sitting outside. I hope we come back soon!

July 2004
The kids had fun building driftwood forts on Dungeness Spit. We hiked the trails at the spit park and enjoyed digging clams and playing in the tide pools. Cooked some great prime rib steaks on the grill and had great meals everyday. Best part was kayaking out to the Dungeness Lighthouse July 4th. Dungeness Kayaking Guide Service was great!! We will certainly be coming back to 10,000 Waves and can't wait until next summer. This is a gem of a location!

June 2004
Had an awesome time! Caught baby crabs on the shore with the kids and big ones in the bay! Yum! Sea kayaking to the lighthouse was a highlight of the trip. Saw eagles and seals! Dug lots of clams and Geoduck clams by John Wayne Marina. Went hiking in the majestic Olympic Mountains on Hurricane Ridge. The weather was beautiful the whole time! Loved the house. Beautiful view from the deck. Watched eagles, dear, and big ships pass by - Cub Scout Pack 258, Richland, WA

June 2004
This is so cool up here. I love the sea. I'm having so much fun. I'm 12 in three days. But I miss home and my friends!!

June 2004
Came up for a marathon. Great place to relax and rest! Awesome view - see you next year.

June 2004
Had a wonderful visit! It is so beautiful here, we don't want to go back to Phoenix. We loved relaxing here and enjoyed the view from the deck. Can't wait to come back!

June 2004
We traveled from Phoenix, AZ, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery from this house. What a great area.

April 2004
My adult children reserved this beautiful place as a birthday present for me. Along with 4 grandchildren, we were able to relax and spend time together. I wish it could have been a much longer visit.

March 2004
Grandma Smith was here from Door County, WI. Sam and Katie were also here from Richland, WA. We are having a good time at our sleep over. Sam keeps picking on me (grandma). We are having such a good time we don’t want to go back. We’ll all be back next year.

March 2004
Thank you for a wonderful few days. We drove to the Olympic overlook at Hurricane Ridge and played in the snow. We also drove by Crescent Lake. It was beautiful. We also enjoyed Port Angeles and listening to the ship communications with our marine radio.

February 2004
What a great place to spend a weekend in February. We came to take a NW carving class. Friends came up to walk the spit, and hang out and talk and read and cook and play some games. The long driveway is a great entrance for this great "cabin" with incredible views. Very relaxing. I hope we make it back. Is this for sale?

January 2004
Best Christmas ever! Great weather for two weeks - only rained one day. Saw lots of eagles, deer, and raccoons. Spent lots of time at Dungeness Spit National Wildlife Refuge walking, building forts, and stacking rocks. Saw several seals and lots of ducks. Took kids bowling in Port Angeles and toured the Dungeness River Audubon Society wild life museum. Saw several Navy submarines pass by. We walked down the trail several times to dig clams. We especially enjoyed eating at the El Cazador Mexican restaurant in Sequim (across from Safeway) and it was excellent. Had several friends from Poulsbo and Silverdale stop by for New Years Eve. Good times can't wait to come back. Thanks 10,000 waves you are a special place. We will forever remember this vacation.

December 2003
BREATHTAKING VIEWS!! This is one of the most unique properties/locations we have ever seen. Places like this are usually national parks. At times watching the ships is a busy activity - even saw several submarines. The waves crashing on the spit is a million dollar sound. Could this be where they record those nature sounds for meditation CDs? We bought snow sleds for the kids (at Swains - they have everything!) and drove up to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. The snow doesn't start until about half way up the mountain. On our way we stopped at the visitor's center and it was a good thing we did - there was so many skiers and sledders that we had to wait to drive up until somebody first came down - rangers said the parking lot was full. We had a great time and spent the whole afternoon getting totally wore out sledding, and I never slept so well as that night. It was only the second time our kids saw real snow. We saw lots of bald eagles, seals, and tame deer. We usually try to vacation somewhere different every year, however we shall return here again and again. Thanks for sharing this wonderful property!

November 2003
Beautiful view of the spit, great privacy, and we really appreciated how well equipped the kitchen was! Played in powdery snow on Hurricane Ridge and walked the spit. Hope to be back!

November 2003
IT WAS GREAT! -Queensland, Australia

November 2003
Had a very nice stay at 10,000 Waves. The view was outstanding and we hate to return back to reality!

October 2003
We are two families. One family is from Seattle and the other is from Bainbridge. We enjoyed the view and the fresh air. We were impressed with the very well equipped kitchen and linen closet.

September 2003
Spent a full week here. Nice mix of Sequim sunshine, showers, and windstorm. The continuous sound of waves on the spit was very relaxing. Toured all the local sites and especially liked the Olympic drive through animal park. Found great food at the High-Way 101 Dinner! We appreciated the books here as the quiet makes good reading atmosphere. We may return someday.

September 2003
10,000 Waves is truly a wonderful place to vacation. We enjoyed the house, the view, the spit and found the people of Sequim to be terrific neighbors - We hope to come back someday.

August 2003
10,000 waves was a great house for the two families. It had a great view and though it was small it had enough room. I had a great time at the house of 10,000 waves.

August 2003
We had a wonderful time both exploring Olympic Peninsula-Park and staying at 10,000 Waves. Never saw the eagle, but did see plenty of grouse and deer walking along the beach (bottom of path from 10,000 waves.) Watching the harbor seals along the spit was also a real treat. Fantastic view and location! Great weather for the most of the week. Despite the blackout in NY putting a crimp into our travel plans back. All said this was a perfect vacation in a perfect setting.

July 2003
We had a great time! What a wonderful place to visit. We saw Sol Duc Falls, Hurricane Ridge and hiked the Dungeness Spit. Did not quite make it to the lighthouse. We will save that for next visit. THE VIEW WAS SPECTACULAR! Thank you for a wonderful experience. We were very comfortable and had everything we needed. Thank You.

July 2003
We really enjoyed our stay. We loved the Marine Center. We loved the view of the beach. We went hiking as well. We loved 10,000 Waves great waves. We will come back some day.

July 2003
We all had a very wonderful time at the Ten Thousand Waves Cabin!! It was so relaxing. Having access to the Spit was great for walking and sight seeing. The cabin was so nice to come back to after a long day of hiking. We enjoyed our stay very much!!

June 2003
Outstanding weather this whole week. Kids had a great time on the beach and Spit during the morning low tides. We dug clams every morning on the beach. Saw lots of passing ships. Kids built forts from driftwood out on the Spit. Just plain had a great time and great weather in the Sequim Rain Shadow. Family spent every night eating dinner out on the deck listening to the waves crash on the Spit - how loud and thunderous the waves are on returning tide. Saw the aforementioned deer and her bambi and the birds nesting in bird houses. We enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks in Port Angeles - great show. We even found some great antiques and treasures at neighborhood yard sales this weekend. 10,000 Waves is great! Great views, great crashing waves sounds, bald eagles - cant be beat anywhere! Can’t wait to return again. Thanks for the great memories.

June 2003
It’s very early in the morn and I cant sleep - neither can I see very well to write or read, but I’m attempting both - forgot my reading glasses. We came together to celebrate the summer solstice - seven women with disparate visions, missions, and goals in life - yet they all merge on the road of common understandings. We are seeking - dreaming - yearning - for better selves - friendship - companionship - support -comfort - laughter - acceptance - happiness. We’ve come to 10,000 Waves hoping to start a tradition of renewal for our goals and dreams - we’ll all check in next year - same bat time, same bat channel to see if we’ve succeeded. I hope so - its been a grand beginning and I look forward to more of it!

June 2003
In lieu of a description of our time here, which could never live up to the experience itself: Today - If ever there were a spring day so perfect, so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze that it made you want to throw open all the windows in the house and unlatch the door to the canary’s cage, indeed, rip the little door from its jamb, a day when the cool brick paths and the garden bursting with peonies seemed so etched in sunlight that you felt like taking a hammer to the glass paperweight on the living room end table, releasing the inhabitants from their snow-covered cottage so they could walk out, holding hands and squinting into this larger dome of blue and white well, today is just that kind of day.

May 2003
Beautiful! We love the solitude and huge windows and deck to enjoy it all. Dug clams, walked the beach, sat on the deck. There are chickadees nesting in the green birdhouse by the shed. Lots of deer - a doe with just born twins, young buck in velvet. They aren’t shy and enjoy fine dining in all these gardens. They use the stairs to the beach. The quail have a huge covey of babies, so they scold us loudly when we walk the driveway. We enjoyed the variety of ships passing by. Saw an eagle capture lunch in the water. This is a very nice retreat - and so well set up - Thank you!

May 2003
We came up to get away from the hustle and bustle of Seattle, exchanging the rat race for a mother seal and her yelping pups. We also hoped to catch some sun in the famed "Banana Belt" of western Washington. Well, the shorts stayed in our bags, the sun decided not to play, replaced by the frolicking birds and the gang of rowdy seals. Socked in with clouds we decided to forego a drive up to Hurricane Ridge and instead discovered the Lost Mountain Winery. What a treat! We added some troll king salmon, some fresh asparagus and had ourselves a memorable BBQ. Later, a pot of coffee, a dab of bittersweet chocolate and a warm fire allowed us to settle in and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of 10,000 Waves. We’ll certainly be back!

May 2003
It was a long way to come (from England) but well worth it. Not sure what happened to the Sequim shadow, but until later it also seemed to have gone on holiday. Still we enjoyed the area and any wet weather failed to impeded our progress (bit like home!). Scenery magnificent, food highly edible and generous, welcome very friendly. Hope we can return one day. P.S. - in such a relaxing place, we have left the tea pot so that real English Tea can add a finishing touch. Enjoy.

May 2003
Had a wonderful time walking along the Spit to the light house. The closer we came to the light house, the more seals and eagles we saw. The lighthouse keepers were super friendly and gave us a nice tour. The weather was great, but unfortunately the mountains were hidden by clouds. The cabin has been cozy and nice to relax in. Thank you.

March 2003
So far 3 good days of weather. Today - St Patrick’s Day was incredible. The eagle kept to his schedule and did his fly by at 7:30 buy today he landed with his breakfast just to the west of the house (look at the large tree between the two tree with bird feeders - the smaller group of trees behind that is where he was sitting and has since returned) while standing at the grill.

Saw two submarines go by with numerous ships. Wile taking my first walk of the day at the spit groups of seals - some with pups - watched us and played in the surf. To make it a perfect walk just after I put my camera away and was starting the uphill trudge back to the car a 20-foot whale (Minke?) breached twice just about 20 yards off shore. This area is magic.

March 2003
Absolutely awesome! Beautiful perfect view - quiet secluded private - a wonderful birthday getaway for my husband! We’ll be back in may to enjoy this for my birthday. We really enjoyed the view - even if it was raining most of the time.

Thanks for sharing your property with us - a getaway from stress - a 5 star facility! Bless you.

February 2003
Had a great time at hurricane ridge at Olympic park. Also did some serious antique shopping in Sequim and Port Angeles. Kids found shells on the beach. Had a great time in Sequim and 10,000 waves. Too bad we couldn’t stay longer. We really don't want to leave!

February 2003
What a fun time we had here - good friends - good wine and great laughs! Why do horses have guns? Michael Jackson is the answer to almost anything in the game of "who is in the bag". Party bus touring the wineries - "Now lets get something straight!" Debbie and her bottle with the party bus seat belts. The hard-core puzzle group who put in many hours and finished one of the hardest puzzles ever, the easy chair that bucked us out "Are you happy to see me?" Little Mermaid sheets on the bund bed, "Oh! Little Tarts!!" What a great weekend! Wish we could stay longer!

January 2003
Each MLK weekend the six of us find somewhere wonderful to go. We eat, nap, eat, walk, eat, play games, eat, be silly (oh, did I mention that we eat?). This was a great place for us, great view, fine weather and the chance to play. The kitchen is perfectly stocked. Plenty of dishes, pans, and extras that help the weekend (wine opener, etc.). Do walk down to the beach it's worth the sweat! Don't use the railings or you will probably fall on your bottom. GREAT DECK!

December 2002
Great times at 10,000 Waves! The December high tides completely flooded over the spit at several locations and caused wash outs. The waves crashing on the spit below is thunderous during a returning tide!! The young bald eagle was on his tree top perch (directly out front about deck level) almost every morning. Watching the passing ships is almost an activity in itself. We kept the kids entertained with nature walks, digging clams, and building drift wood forts and rock piles on the spit.

November 2002
Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to Sequim we go.... Had a wonderful and relaxing time here. Thoroughly enjoyed the sound of the lapping waves, the sunny and foggy days, and the walk along the spit. Locked ourselves out after unloading suitcases and food on Thanksgiving Day. Back into town and a few cell calls later - another set of keys. Ate at 7 Cedars Casino - a decent buffet. On Friday we ventured into Sequim and had a delightful time visiting quaint shops and buying lots of unique gifts and goodies. Saturday we went to Port Angeles and found shops in Sequim far more interesting. Lavender Haze, Foxglove and Smith, and Over the Fence are most delightful.

November 2002
We enjoyed this beautiful place and the sound of the waves, but most of all we enjoyed our family and friends. -Kaneohe HI

Our handsome Grandson played his guitar for us and made great music to hear. He was part of a craft show at the Dungeness School. What a talented Grandson.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!" 51 years old today. We had a wonderful dinner to celebrate. He received a great art kit for a gift - relaxed and had some creative time with the new kit. Oops, forgot the candles but the squashed cheesecake was still a great treat. Sherrie the master chef cooked our meals. We thought we were at the Ritz. Roast pork, chicken adobo, baked potatoes, salads galore, macaroni, cranberries, fruit plates and more.

Our adventures have been photographed and saved for posterity by our own professional photographer. ALOHA FROM HAWAII.

October 2002
Thank you for the use of your lovely vacation home. We mother and daughter retreat once a year to different locations and this has become a favorite. We especially enjoyed the rain Forest yesterday.

We had only one problem that was quickly solved - the coffee filters left here were the wrong ones and caused a spillover. We purchased the correct ones and are leaving them for the next visitors. Thanks Again.

September 2002
Had a wonderful time here this weekend. Me my husband and two children, and a friend and her husband and child. Just had a relaxing time, we went to Olympic Game Farm Park on Saturday. It is a steep and narrow path. But it is very serene down there. We would definitely come again.

September 2002
Though we arrived to unmade beds (oops) the situation was soon remedied and the remainder of our stay was idyllic. We looked for eagles everyday from the deck but none came to visit. Saw plenty of deer on our travels. This is a very restive place you have here. We can now go back to the land of no water ready to face the winter! Thanks So Much! -Boulder, CO

September 2002
"These Beautiful days must enrich all my life. They do not exist as mere pictures - maps hung upon the walls of memory.... But they saturate themselves into every part of my body and live always."

- John Muir

This was our first trip to the northwest. Our time here was magical! Too short to do everything we wanted to, but we leave feeling inspired and changed by all we have seen. We highly recommend taking the long (long) drive out to the Cape Flattery. The hike to the point is wonderful, and standing at the end is indescribably awesome. Due to all the driving we did not spend as much time at the cottage as we would have liked, but the time here was beautiful. Great breakfast views and we swear we saw the Northern Lights! (Is that possible?) Thank You!

September 2002
Our family saw 9 deer in two days. We love it here. We hope to come back soon!

August 2002
Our family gathered here for a wonderful week of fun! We feel very fortunate to have found such a beautiful spot in the Pacific Northwest. We loved the views of the mountains. Hearing the waves in the distance was very soothing. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the deck reading and soaking in the sun. Thanks for the use of games and toys and videos. A kid friendly place which was great! The kids felt at home here and enjoyed the comfy Lazy Boy chair (having two would have helped avoid some feuds). One suggestion - putting a screen on the door going out to the deck. We wanted to keep the door open at night but then the bugs were attacking us. A screen would help keep the cool air moving without any unwanted visitors.

Thanks for opening your house to our family. We live across the U.S.A. and having the opportunity to all get together is special. This 10,000 Waves Cabin was a great meeting spot! We have taken with amazing memories. -Detroit, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle

June 2002
The week we spent here is etched into my memory and the soles of my feet. The 21st was pretty uneventful because of the time zone changes, and the people were sleepy. The 22nd we slept in and then trekked across the muddy area down the trail to the spit. We only walked about ¾ of a mile down it before coming back. On the 23rd we drove up to Hurricane Ridge and then went to Port Angeles (Is that how you spell it?). Before returning to the cabin, we went to town to do some shopping, had a few very emotional discussions, and rounded out the 24th by doing some sibling bonding. The 25th was spent two ways: Dad and Chris went to the rain forest park and the rest of us took Amanda up to Seattle. Not a very enjoyable trip for the most part. Finally, on the 26th Dad, Chris, Sean, and I went back to the spit, but only Sean and I made it to the lighthouse. I’ll be sore forever…Nah, just for a few days. Thanks. We are from all over: Japan, California, Seattle, and North Carolina.

June 2002
We arrived at around 3:00 or so. The weather was very nice and warm! This place is beautiful! Three of the ladies went to the store, while two of us stayed behind and read. We got back and we all pitched in and made dinner. It was great! Afterwards we sat back and visited.

We are all taking turns writing and I will probably take more than my turn! It is a beautiful evening, finally cooling down. We had a bit of a problem with yellow jackets and wonder if there is a nest nearby or if we are just not used to wooded area.

We spent a lot of time setting on the deck listening to the waves and relaxing. The theme of our retreat is "recognizing your learning styles and how to apply them in every day life," but I have to admit this retreat has already proven to be friends enjoying each other. Until later.

Several of us enjoyed a peaceful gorgeous colorful sunset on the deck. We rounded out the evening by baking brownies (we highly recommend Betty Crocker peanut supreme) having drinks and playing board games (we did not expect there to be any, so we brought our own). We simultaneously decided to call it an evening hoping for restful fresh air induced sleep.

Hi again. Just a short entry this morning. The night was peaceful for me, but we have discovered that someone snores like a man! We woke early but I was determined to sleep in so I stayed in bed with my eyes closed until 7am. Because anything before that is inhuman! Thank God for Folgers.

We are heading out today. Yesterday flew by and I never got another chance to write. After breakfast we dropped several off at the casino and I decided to hit the shops. We met back at the casino and had lunch. I left with $20 more than I came with. Not bad. We headed back to the house and all of us napped. We did get a little work done before dinner (they are paying for us to be here after all).
